Lence Loves....

Easter loooooong weekend

WOW what a weekend!!

This is the longest time off work that I've had in a while. And boy it sure does feel good.  We've had a great time catching up with family and our wonderful friends. We've stuffed ourselves with yummy food and lots of chocolate...mmmm

I love my family. I love my friends :))

The weather has been horrible here in Sydney, its been raining and it's a little chilly. Perfect sewing weather  if you ask me :)) but with 2 bored kids at home, there wasn't much of a chance of me getting anything done. I think I've spent most of today playing referee. Rain + bored kids = tantrums, fighting, crying & screaming....Ugh.  As weird as it sounds I'm kinda looking forward to work tomorrow. I will at last have some "ME" time. Now I just need to figure out a way to bring my sewing machine in without anyone noticing. Do you think they'll notice if I did?? LOL

I did manage to complete 2 projects. A lined zippered purse and a kids tote bag.

I would have been able to get more done if I didn't have to answer a gazillion questions while sewing. I'm hoping over the next few days I will be able to get some more done for the market stall this Saturday. Fingers crossed....

Chocolate

Hello, my name is Lence and I'm addicted to chocolate. Not that it's a bad thing right???

Easter is my favourite holiday. I have an excuse to eat and indulge in my favourite sweet........CHOCOLATE.

Chocolate and I get on so well together. Too well sometimes :)) If only I could get along with that place called "Gym" then I wouldn't be so worried.

My favourite has to be the Lindt Gold bunny. Actually anything Lindt would do me just fine :))

My 2 little princess's have inherited the chocolate addiction gene also. They have a weakness for the sweet. But who can blame them??  If they could they would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are happy to live off Nutella sandwiches if I let them. I have busted the cheeky little buggers hiding in their room with the jar and spoons, eating straight out of the jar with chocolate all over their faces LOL. I must admit it did make me laugh :))

Apart from stuffing my face with chocolate this long weekend I've managed to get some sewing done along with the traditional egg dying for the festive season.

I've have sewn a couple of aprons and 2 lined zippered purses. I hope to get more sewing done this weekend so that everything is ready for a market stall on the 1st May 2011.  Fingers crossed it doesn't rain.

Bread

As promised here is the recipe I use to make bread. Today will be the 3rd day in a row that I'm baking bread. So i decided to make a double batch to keep my family happy and fed :))
(just double the quanity of the ingredients to make twice as much)

My family can't seem to get enough of it - neither can I,  but don't tell anyone :))

Basic Bread Recipe
300 grams (3 1/2 cups) of White Bakers Flour (Plain Flour will do)
1 Sachet of dried yeast
1 teaspoon of salt
375ml (1 1/2 cups) of lukewarm water

Sift the flour in a bowl then add the salt and yeast. Mix well to combine.

Make a well in the centre

Add the water to the dry ingredients
The water needs to be warm so that it activates the yeast and encourages it to grow. If the water is too hot it can kill the yeast. To test it I sprinkle some on the inside of my wrist.
Like we do when warming up a baby's bottle :)) It shouldn't be too hot or too cold.

Mix slowly incorporating the flour and water until combined and then use your hands to bring the dough together.

Turn the dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 mins or until your dough becomes smooth and elastic. You'll know when its ready when you press your finger into the dough and it springs back.

Shape the dough into a ball.

Place it in a bowl that has been oiled lightly (I used extra light virgin olive oil). This will stop it sticking to your bowl. I also lightly oil the top of the dough too. This will stop it from drying out while it's left to prove.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean tea towel and leave it in a warm place.

It should take about an hour or until you see it double in size.

Once it doubled in size punch it down in the centre.

This is releasing the carbon dioxide that was produced during the rising.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it again for about 3-5 mins
or until its smooth and elastic and it returns to its original size.

Place your dough in a lightly oiled and floured loaf tin.
I usually sprinkle some sifted flour over the top.

Cover the dough with a tea towel and leave it to prove again for another 30 minutes.
It should double in size. In the meantime preheat your oven to about 180 degrees

Once it's doubled in size place it in a preheated oven for about 30-45 mins or until its golden and cooked through.
I usually check it by tapping and if it sounds hollow then it cooked.

Turn it out on a wire rack immediately and let it cool.
If you leave it in the pan it will sweat and it will make the crust soft (not very pleasant).

I usually don't wait for it cool. A slice smothered in butter is my idea of bliss  Mmmmmm.....melted butter on hot bread is divine....Yum Yum Yummy

YAY I did it

YAY i finally have a blog.

After much deliberation with my best friend Tina (She Sews She Sells) I have come up with my own blog. It's all very exciting for me as I've never done anything like this before.

Lence Loves.... is about all the things I love -  food, sewing, friends, my family and much much more.

Well I'm off now to bake some yummy home made bread for our dinner. My little princesses can't get enough of it ;-) I might even do a post on it soon.......

In the meantime here are a few picture of the things I've made :))
